All of the photographs and documents used here were collected by my grandfather Ivan. In 1982 he painstakingly assembled ninety identical three ring binders full of collected family history and photographs which he distributed to family members. A smaller group received a revised edition in 1998.

In the interim we have been saddened by loss and blessed by births. In particular, my son Maxell was born late in 1998 and my son Peter was born late in 2002. My great uncle (and friend) Alan left us early in 2002 to join Helen, his late wife of 70 years.

This is the story of a particular branch of the Quackenbush family, of six brothers who lived together in Minnesota for only a few years early in the twentieth century before scattering. It is also as much of the story of their parents as can be ascertained, and some earlier history of the family.

Edward Baird Quackenbush

Edward was born March 19th, 1871, at Smithville, Ontario Canada and died October 20th, 1920 in Aitkin Minnesota. His wife Helen Jane Chartrand was born May 17th, 1881, at Bruce County, Ontario and died on April 11th, 1978 in Wauconda, Illinois.

They were married on April 28th, 1904 in Toronto Ontario and are buried together in Oneota Cemetery, Duluth Minnesota. They had six children, all boys.
